Last night at 8:30, I’m stopped at the light by The Afterthought and I hear this thick scraping sound and look over and see this young woman sinking into an open sewer manhole at the corner of Beechwood and Kavanaugh. She’s got her phone in her hand and is still texting as I witness her descending into the abyss. I yell out my window to see if she needs help, but she can’t be bothered to wrench her gaze away from the phone as she continues her frantic one-handed texting, while her other hand struggles to pry her ass from of the manhole. I park the car and return. By then she’s escaped from the sewer and is scuttling away with a slight injury. But now, she is too intently squawking on her phone to engage me in conversation.

  2. SOME DRIVES LIKE THAT ALSO… OBLIVIOUS TO THE WORLD AROUND THEM

  3. For the record…this "young woman" was my daughter. She's still as oblivious to the world and addicted to texting as she was then.
